We provide all types of Orthodontic treatment. For Adults and Children these include: Removable Appliances, Fixed Silver & Multi-color braces, Clear Fixed braces, Lingual braces (on the inside of the tooth) and Invisalign (The latest in Invisible Orthodontic Treatments).
Your first visit would a short screening appointment where you are assessed for suitability for treatment. If you will benefit from treatment, a further appointment will be needed in order for records to be done: These include : Radiographs, Impressions, Photographs and some Measurements. At a subsequent visit, the option available can be discussed in greater detail.
It is also possible to recommend removal of teeth because of a lack of space to accommodate all adult teeth. A choice of appliance may be presented on your visit.
Treatment can be performed with different appliances known as "BRACES". They fall into three groups.
removable appliance
Removable appliances rely on wires and springs attached to plastics which fit into the roof of the mouth. Their application is restricted to simple cases which do not require complex movement of teeth. Modern removable appliances include the nearly invisible Invisalign and Inman aligners.
fixed appliance
Known as "Train Track" braces. These have a combination brackets, bands and flexible wires which are stuck to individual teeth. It is not possible for patients to remove the appliance.
functional appliance
Functional Appliances are designed to modify the way the jaw grows. They rely on the muscle forces to achieve this and can help in certain types of problems.
retention
When active treatment is completed, it is necessary to hold the teeth in position to allow them to settle for a period of time. These appliances are called Retainers. Retainers can be fixed or removable depending on the original problem.
What are the benefits of Orthodontic Treatment?
- A good appearance and a great smile. Research shows this is of psychological and social benefit by improving self-esteem and confidence.
- Improved "cleanability" of teeth and reduced risk of cavities and gum disease that can lead eventually to tooth decay / loss.
- Better tooth relationships allow effective chewing, digestion and speech.
- Reduced chance of chipping or breaking protruding front teeth.
- Correcting
improper jaw relationships can reduce stress on
chewing muscle
and jaw joints.
Can anyone be treated?
Age is no barrier to Orthodontic Treatment. Treatment can
be successful at any age, and increasing number of patients are adult.
However the majority of patients are children.
How long will Treatment Last?
Length of treatment depends on severity of the original problem
and may take anything from six months to two and a half years.
Most people are treated within 1 to 2 years.
How Many Visits?
It is usually necessary to adjust any Orthodontic appliance at
regular intervals, usually every 4 - 8 weeks.
Will It Hurt?
It is not at all painfulto have the braces fitted, although the
appliances may
feel strange to begin with, and can cause some
discomfort. This usually subsides within a few days.
How Much Will It Cost?
Children under the age of 16 years can often be treated under
the NHS. However NHS funding for Orthodontic treatment is limited
and as such, control is exercised over the type of treatment
to be provided. NHS waiting lists can delay the start of treatment.
Our specialist services include; dental implants and laser tooth whitening. Our treatment plans cater for a wide range of budgets with NHS Treatment, Independant Treatment and Private Treatment plans available.
a smile for life
While Orthodontics is elective treatment and is usually not essential, the self-confidence that is generated by having a smile and with good-looking straight teeth can have an important effect on a young life.
